Endocrine disruptors
Thematic Working Group
The Working Group (WG) on "Endocrine Disruptors" reports to the CES on "Chemicals covered by the REACH and CLP Regulations".
This WG has the following roles:
- to collect and summarise knowledge on: the potentially harmful effects of endocrine disruption (ED), such as those on reproduction, fertility, development, metabolism, carcinogenesis, etc.; the mechanisms of action of endocrine disruption;
- to analyse the available data on the substances undergoing expert appraisal, in order to reach a conclusion on their endocrine-disrupting potential for human health or the environment, according to the classification criteria of the CLP Regulation, in support of the CES REACH;
- to issue an opinion on the study models used to produce data;
- to contribute to the ranking of potential ED substances requiring an in-depth analysis of their effects with a view to a possible health risk assessment, particularly among sensitive populations and according to windows of vulnerability;
- to help establish a regulatory testing strategy to be implemented as part of the REACH Regulation, in order to clarify the endocrine properties of the assessed substances where justified, in support of the CES REACH.
